Adventure Trail – Lea and Ben with the Suckler Cows

In 2024-2025 it's in Lenzburg AG and in 2023 it's in Malleray-Montoz BE

Come along to the suckler cows!

Lea and Ben are all excited. They get to look over farmer Simon’s shoulder and ask him everything that interests them. They are constantly amazed – there is so much they didn’t know.

Did you know that broken glass on the side of the road can be life-threatening for cows? Or that there are cheaper grilled cuts than entrecotes? And did you know that there are over 30 different breeds of suckler cows?

Would you like to have fun while learning more about suckler cows? Then join Lea and Ben on the adventure trail!

On the adventure trail you will come across various posts where the children can solve problems and play together with Lea and Ben.

  • Sustainable fodder: Play cow-calf-bull polo and learn what suckler cows mainly eat.
  • Breed diversity: Discover the colourful breeds of suckler cows. Ride a suckling calf and lead the little calf to its mother.
  • Rubbish in the cow pasture: Save lives and throw the aluminium cans into the rubbish bin. Who in your family is the best shot?
  • Inexpensive yet sustainable: When shopping, would you like to do something for the environment and animal welfare without stretching the family budget? Slide the flaps up and find out which cuts of meat fit the household budget.
  • Water consumption: What needs more water, the production of 1 kg of nuts or 1 kg of beef? Does it make a difference whether the cow is fed with grass or with concentrated feed? Solve the puzzle and find the answers.
  • Grassland Switzerland: Did you know that you can’t grow crops on most agricultural land, i.e. you can’t grow vegetables, potatoes or cereals? Only grass grows there. Without ruminants such as cows, the land would be useless for food production. Use the magnets to find out where meadows and pastures make sense.

Lea and Ben have more questions:

How do I behave when I come across a calf? What do I do with my dog Bello, when I have to cross a cow pasture while hiking? What should I do if a cow approaches me? Time and again you’ll find learning panels between the posts. Here you learn how to behave towards cattle while hiking.

The adventure trail is laid out in a new location every second year. In 2024-2025 it‘s in Lenzburg AG. You can find more information here. In 2023 it's in Malleray BE. You can find more information here.
